out of school today with babies due to flu

Well we all had to stay home today both babies test positive for type A flu and we are all on tamiflu. It has been over one month since posting here on the blog and needless to say we made it here and are all settled in. I have started school and the babies are now in day care. It is almost midterm exam time and fall break. The babies and I arrived at OKC on 7/14/2009 which was babies first birthday, and they will be 15 months this next coming week.

Time to PACK and Hit The Road With Twins

I have moved several times as a child and as an adult, but nothing compared to the task of moving across country with infant Twins. As a single mom living on my own with no
family you can not even imagine the task of packing to move while taking care of 2 babies days to day needs. I had to make a decision to rent a truck and hire someone to drive it
because I couldn’t drive it and tow the caravan as the trucks have no back seat for 2 car seats or sell everything big, ship all our personal stuff and buy everything again when we got to OKC. The decision was simple cost wise it was better to ship FedEx ground 21 pieces 18 boxes 1 suitcase an excersaucer and of course the double Eddie Bauer stroller.
So while packing to move I also had a daily garage sale from 3-
from 3 to 8 pm advertised on craigslist, and raised $1100.
This was the same money I had to budget to make sure we got beds, dinning and living room set upon arrival to OKC and
and to buy kitchen, bathroom and household stuff like hangers, cleaners, garbage cans, waste baskets. At the same time I had to find a place where will would live and I applied for my Financial Aid so that when I arrived OKC I could get back into school at 42.

Nanny leaves and the decision to move closer to family is made

The nanny received news that her recently married only child was going to be a father and she wanted to return to Venezuela. After loosing my dad and living over 25 years away from family on my own in Michigan, Florida and Massachusetts and now being a mom. I had to take a hard look at life and decide what is best for not just me but my daughters. I decided that they needed roots, and to be around family. Since they were donor conceived they only have one side of family to know being my side. My family is spread all over the country but the place that had the most family in one central area was Oklahoma. Being originally from California and living in places surrounded by water the thought of moving to Oklahoma was a little uneasy. However the benefits of familial support and the desire for my children to have a sense of belonging was stronger than my desire to stay on the east coast. Now my daughters will have their maternal Grand Mother, and Step Grand father, a great Gradn Father and Great Grand mother, 1 uncle and 2 cousins a few 2^nd and 3 rd cousins and great Aunts from my maternal side, as well as some extended family from my Dads side about 100 miles away from OKC in Tulsa.

Bitter Sweet times Found a Nanny but my Dad dies suddenly at 60

I found a mature woman from Venezuela who wanted to come back to the states. She worked online as a journalist and had been here in the past to obtain her degree in journalism at a school in Bridgeport CT. She had also been to NY and stayed with a family as a nanny, and TX where she cared for an elderly lady. I was relieved to believe that this woman would be coming to help in April and was waiting the time out enjoying time with my ever growing beautiful daughters. On March 15^th 2009 I received a devastating phone call the my Dad had died at 60 of a sudden heart attack. Thankfully I had received a very nice earned income credit tax return and had it in savings. Again I traveled alone with twins but this time from Boston, MA to San Francisco, CA via Columbus on Delta with a 30 minute connection. Delta crew was awesome and helped me tremendously in this severe moment of grief. We stayed in California for 1 week and returned the 1^st of April. Now my daughters not only have no father but they are left without a grandfather.

A new year a new leaf for the babies and I

Over the past few months I was able to find a few odd jobs from online sources, that kept the bills paid. I was also able to get some grants to help pay $3000 in housing cost and over $1500 in heating oil assistance. The WIC program was also very helpful with formula for the babies. I was finally able in January to find a part time job that actually paid hourly working from home. However the challenge was child care as this job required quit as Iwas on the phone, and the babies were beginning to become very active and crawling. I was blessed with the help of a young woman who was also a single mom to a 6 year old boy who in exchange for housing in my large home helped with child care. However in February she moved with her boyfriend so again I was left with the dilemma to find a work at home income opportunity to supplement my other streams of income and grants.

Holiday travel as a single mom of twins

Along with financial challenges of loss of an income source in September and the need to stay on a strict budget my twins were going into their fifth and 6th month of life and it was now holiday as well as the cold winter months when heating oil bill became very high. Still full of happiness and silly smiles for my precious blessings regardless of finances. I routinely traveled from Massachusetts to visit my Mom and Grand parents as well as a host of other family for the Thanksgiving holiday. This year however was not in our budget. My Grandparent surprised us with a gift of Airfare round trip. I flew with my twins alone from Providence road island to OKC via Baltimore change of plane on southwest airlines.

The bliss of the third and fourth month of single motherhood along with financial challenges

My twins went into their third month of life happy healthy and growing rapidly. I as their mother walked around with a silly smile, singing and dancing for them, which entertained and stimulated their minds. They laughed, and got tired and napped a lot. Late in the third month I received a letter stating that I would loose a substantial part of my income. After working from home exclusively for over 8 years and being a single mom by choice I had no desire nor intention to seek work outside my home away from my babies. However as the sole bread winner I had to find ways to compensate, save, and reserve what we had to survive. My quest to find a new stream of work from home income began in October.
